Today, S&S Europe B.V. has been declared bankrupt. S&S Europe is the Northern European retail and e-commerce (online store) organization of the clothing brand Scotch & Soda, which previously went bankrupt in 2023. After the bankruptcy in 2023, Scotch & Soda was acquired by Bluestar Alliance, a New York-based brand management company. The retail and e-commerce activities in Northern Europe were continued by S&S Europe B.V.

The bankruptcy is caused by logistical problems following the restart in 2023 and ongoing losses as a result.

Bankruptcy has also been filed for the branches in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Austria. In total, this involves 92 stores and 721 employees, of which 28 stores and 320 employees are in the Netherlands.

The trustees, Michel Moeijes and Abslem Ourhris from Tanger Advocaten, are aiming for a restart. It is expected that within approximately 2 weeks, through a restart, sales activities will be continued by another party in consultation with brand owner Bluestar Alliance.

Meanwhile, all stores in the Netherlands remain open.

Return Policy for Items Purchased from Stores in the Netherlands:

  • Items can only be exchanged and not returned for cash.

Gift Cards:

  • No new gift cards will be issued.
  • Please note that if a gift card is used to purchase an item, the item cannot be returned but can be exchanged for another item.

Return Policy for Online Shop:

  • Items cannot be returned but can only be exchanged in our physical stores.

Return Policy for All Retail Stores:

  • Items purchased in our stores can be exchanged in our stores (but not returned).
  • If items are purchased online and the customer wants to return them to a store, the purchase price cannot be refunded, and the items can only be exchanged.

Can I still use my purchased gift card?

  • Gift cards purchased before the bankruptcy date can still be used to buy items in a Scotch & Soda store.
  • Items purchased with a gift card cannot be returned/refunded. However, they can be exchanged in a Scotch & Soda store.

Can I return my items?

  • Items purchased in a Scotch & Soda store or our online shop cannot be returned/refunded. They can only be exchanged in a Scotch & Soda store. It is not possible to return items by mail or courier.

I sent my item back but have not received my refund. Will I get my money back?

  • Unfortunately not. You can file a claim in the bankruptcy by sending an email with the invoice to the trustee: faillissement@tanger.nl
  • This will make you a creditor in the bankruptcy. Depending on the settlement of the bankruptcy, you may still receive a reimbursement.
What is a CVC/CVV/CID?

The Card Security Code (CVC/CVV/CID) is an additional three or four digit security code that is printed (not embossed) on the front or back of your credit card. The CVC/CVV/CID is an extra security measure to ensure that you are in possession of your own credit card.

Is it safe to order online?

We take your online security very seriously. Personal and payment information is safe and no data is sent over without encryption. Protecting your information is our highest priority. All orders are transmitted over secure internet connections using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology and other measures.

What’s my order status?

You will be notified by e-mail at various stages during the dispatching process of your order.

When will my order be shipped?

We try to send packages within 24 hours with the exception of weekends and during bank holidays. After your order is shipped you will receive a tracking number by email to follow your package along its trip to your doorstep.

Can I exchange my online purchase?

Unfortunately we aren’t able to exchange your return. Once we receive your return in good condition, we will refund the returned articles within 14 working days. If the article you are looking for is still available, you can make a new order in our webstore.

Have you received my returned goods?

As soon as we receive your return in our warehouse, we will notify you by email. Please note that it takes a while to process your return. A refund will follow within 14 working days.

Your Scotch & Soda Gift Card can be redeemed in our directly operated physical stores (including Outlet stores) in the following countries:

- The Netherlands

- Germany

- Belgium

- Austria

- Luxembourg

Please note that Scotch & Soda Gift Cards cannot be redeemed (i) in stores operated by other franchise partners, (ii) online, and/or (iii) for cash.

What is the validity period of my Scotch & Soda Gift Card?

Your Scotch & Soda Gift Card will be valid for two years from the date of purchase.
